Doric - The Language of North East Scotland

Bill Buchan

    Born and brought up in the North East of Scotland, I am a poet who has found great success with my books of poetry and prose. Written predominantly in the natural Doric language of the North East, my work covers many of the issues which face the people who live here. My love of the sea is obvious and I have great sympathy for the plight of the farmers and crofters. I do not overlook the inherent humour of the people and many of the pieces reflect this.
    My first book, 'A Taezali Tippence' was published in 1996 and it was the encouragement received from this project which ensured that the second book, 'A Buchan Blether' appeared two years later.
    My latest book, 'Among The Steens' is now in the shops and I hope that it brings the same joy to the readers as the previous books.
    In between writing books, I have also brought out an album of self penned folk songs. Performed entirely in the Doric, "Fae Croft ti Creel" is available in the shops locally or via the internet.
    My work has been broadcast on radio and has appeared in books and anthologies published by other writers.
